This project involved the construction of a trades training building for at-risk youth at a secure Youth Detention Facility. This project is expected to achieve a LEED Silver designation. This building has specialty areas, such as, an automotive shop, general carpentry area, welding area, greenhouse, flammable gas storage room, mezzanine, office space, washrooms and change rooms. Due to the intended use of this building the required mechanical systems are extensive and complex in design, including in-floor radiant heating, dust extraction units, and exhaust & welding fume extraction units. This building is constructed with a poured concrete footing and foundation, masonry block wall structure, and finished with an architectural block and prefinished metal siding exterior. There is an extensive security system installed throughout this building including CCTV’s, card readers, and security fencing around the perimeter as this is a residential facility serving male youth in a secure detention setting. Site work consisted of site servicing, site lighting, fencing and landscaping on approximately 1.5 acres.
